Our Story

Incorporated in 1841, Albany Rural Cemetery (ARC) is one of the oldest and grandest examples of the rural or garden cemetery movement in America. While still an active cemetery after 175 years, Albany Rural Cemetery continues to be much more than a place of burial. It offers visitors historical, architectural, and sculptural memorials, as well as amazing natural beauty. Albany Rural Cemetery is located in Menands, New York—within 5 miles of New York State’s Capitol building in downtown Albany. It is a natural oasis in the middle of the Capital Region of New York.

Today ARC attracts thousands of visitors who come to pay tribute to historical figures and loved ones who are deceased, and to enjoy the beautiful landscape, streams, waterfalls, and array of funerary art and architecture that is ARC. Albany Rural is also a special haven for bird-watchers, walkers, runners, cyclists, and dog-walkers. Come visit.
