At present, we cannot accommodate walk-in requests for genealogy and research. Please contact the office in advance to schedule an appointment.

Albany Rural Cemetery offers access to its genealogical files and resources by appointment only. Our staff can assist you with your research during pre-arranged visits, available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a maximum duration of one hour.

Available Genealogical Files & Resources

Interment Cards


These index cards contain information on individual burials. Information on these cards can include name, place of birth, place of death, residence at time of death, cause of death, age, date of death, date of interment, location of grave (section and lot), plot owner, and in some cases, names of kin.  Some early burials, particularly those prior to 1869, may contain less information. Records for early burials or those transcribed from headstones, general contain less information.

Plot cards


These cards correspond to the section and lot and will include the original purchaser of the plot, the size of the plot, the cost of the plot, date of purchase, and the names of all burials in the plot with date of death, date of interment, and age.

Plot books


The plot books correspond to the plot cards. They list each burial in the plot along with a diagram of the location of each grave within the plot, as well as the location of any monuments and individual headstones. They may contain additional notes such as the monument manufacturer or date of monument installation.

Vertical files


These files are generally for office use only, However, they can be reviewed by staff on a case-by-case basis. If these files are found to contain genealogical or historical material they may be shared.

Please note:


Our records do not include death certificates. To obtain death certificates, please contact the NYS Department of Health.

We do not have access to records from other cemeteries, including the adjacent St. Agnes and Beth Emeth.
