Dear Albany Rural Cemetery Community and Visitors,
By now you are being impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Like many businesses, Albany Rural Cemetery has begun to take all necessary precautionary measures to protect our staff, volunteers, visitors and business partners while still carrying out our essential mission as a crematory and place to bury the dead, providing closure and comfort to our patrons.
While our grounds remain open to the public from 7 AM. To 7 PM, the cemetery is now taking more proactive measures to protect our staff, volunteers, members, visitors, and business partners. Our office currently remains open for necessary business operations; this includes for all funeral directors in the course of their funeral, interment, and crematory needs as well as those seeking lot sales which will be by appointment only. However, the office is closed to all nonessential personnel. This includes visitors, members, volunteers, those with genealogy or other cemetery data inquiry’s, and the general public until further notice. Our Chapel is also closed to the public to meet the recent newly enacted government guidelines on event gathering and any onsite restrooms are also closed to the public until the spread of the virus is contained.
While our grounds remain open to the public, visitors utilizing the grounds should practice sound social and physical distancing from other visitors and staff until such time as the virus is contained. Cemetery maps will only be made available in outside boxes at the office and south gate of the cemetery. The Cemetery is utilized by many for walking, hiking, and visiting loved ones no longer with us, and we do hope that you will continue to responsibly and safely visit the cemetery in this time of uncertainty.
The Cemetery has no scheduled events until early May 2020. The Cemetery will keep you posted in the future on program and event schedules. At this time none of our scheduled programs for 2020 have been cancelled, but we will be closely monitoring the situation in the weeks and months ahead. We will continue to communicate updates as needed.
