There are three historic publications on Albany Rural Cemetery published during the 1800’s that served as handbooks or guides for visitors to the Cemetery. They are the best resources for information about the Cemetery history and the people buried in it.
These three historical publications, which can be downloaded here, are:
- Henry W. Churchill’s Guide Through the Albany Rural Cemetery (1858)
- Edward Fitzgerald’s A Handbook for the Albany Rural Cemetery (1871)
- Henry P. Phelps’ The Albany Rural Cemetery: Its Beauties, Its Memories (1893)
The most up-to-date publication available for purchase from the ARC office is Times Union writer Paul Grohndal’s These Exalted Acres—Unlocking the Secrets of Albany Rural Cemetery (2013).
